Is this treatment offered at Dr. Destang's clinic?
Yes. Only orthodontists specially certified to use the technology can treat patients with Invisalign. Dr. Destang is fully certified to use the Invisalign system.
What exactly is Invisalign
& how does it work?
The system uses a series of clear removable plastic appliances that fit snugly over the teeth. Each appliance places controlled forces on to the teeth that allow them to straighten. By the final appliance, alignment would have occurred and the teeth are straightened. These appliances are computer designed based on 3-dimensional imaging. Treatment is therefore custom designed for each patient.
Is it proven technology?
For patients deemed suitable for treatment – yes. Since Invisalign was approved in the US in 1998, more than 70% of trained Orthodontists have been certified to use the system. Thousands of patients have been successfully treated.
Who are suitable patients?
This type of treatment is for persons who are in the adult dentition, that is, their adult teeth have erupted. Usually, this is by the age of 14 years. It is also best suited for persons with milder orthodontic problems. Extraction cases cannot be treated with Invisalign. In selecting suitable cases, diagnosis and clinical expertise of the Orthodontist is crucial, since not all patients will be suitable candidates.
