CROSSBITES

The upper teeth usually bite on the outside of the lower teeth, like the lid on a box. If the upper jaw is too narrow, the upper teeth may bite on the wrong side of the lower teeth. This could be either on 1 side, or both sides. The bite can become uncomfortable, as the patient has to slide the teeth around to get the teeth to fit together. This can lead to uneven wear of the teeth, and can also cause jaw joint problems. Treatment often involves an orthodontic appliance to painlessly expand the upper jaw.
