DEEP AND OPEN BITES

Deep bites: Top front teeth cover more than 1/3 of the bottom front teeth. In severe cases, the upper front teeth completely cover the lower front teeth.  These patients are prone to traumatic damage of their palate, gums, and wearing down of the teeth.

Open bites: This occurs when usually the front teeth (and less often, the back teeth) do not meet when a patient bites together. An open bite can cause eating and speech problems.
